I did the Vermont paperwork recently for a 65 Comet station wagon and used the Hagerty guide to establish the value, I used their value for a next to lowest condition car and it was FAR lower than for a restored car. I even called the Vermont DMV and talked through the whole process with a DMV rep. and asked if that was an acceptable way to establish the value. I haven't gotten my registration back from them yet so who knows. I hope it goes through, I have 2 more scruffy cars I need titles for

So true, about "The Vermont Loophole!" I was given a `1964 Chevy II wagon with no title, so I checked on how to get a title through Vermont. Despite my Nova being just a roller with no engine, the value was set at $14,000! Ugh…way too much money in fees and taxes to get a title through Vermont on that car. Good option though, if the car is valuable!
