In our last video we talked about using Water Supply Braided Steel hose for automotive fuel systems, but we made a couple of mistakes concerning materials and fittings in the process. Here’s the corrected info.
Also, the latest on Slaghammer, and we introduce our new test mule project. A rolling Dyno based on a 1967 Belvedere we saved from parts car oblivion many years ago.

I think you'll find the "stainless steel" braiding is very poor grade as well. You pay for what you get. Please don't go down the bad chad way. Cheap is not good in the long run.
Put a Chrysler v10 in it, or a jeep 4.0.
Found a 361 on FB marketplace the other day and thought of you. I am curious about a 400. I've never really heard anything about them.
Do a street car setup as you said. That makes it more relatable to viewers. Nothing super lightened up, no weird engine combos. Do a low end torque small block like a 408. Moderate HP, say 450 range but over 500 ft-lbs or torque. Still pump gas, 3.55 gear, drive wherever.
Could you do a poly build in that car???
Just buy the right stuff the first time. Do it right or do it twice. It ends up costing more. And taking more of your time.
Tony, you are too old to do all that racing. I am too damn old and in too much pain, not to mention too poor to race in real life. That is why I sim race and watch other people race. I watch this just to hear your knowledge. I have forgotten a lot, but when I see or hear I remember some of it. It's all good. Plus, I learn a lot I never knew.
Dana "60" Glass. I think the sky's the limit on the new mule. Great for getting a grudge match race car together, or maybe the ultimate beater dependability combo. One crazy idea that came to this crazy brain is the "unlimited" top end highway patrol chase cruiser from Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. With a 3.23:1 8 3/4 sure grip you can get some top end. Of coarse you would have to find room to test. Just a strange thought.
Fun and funny as per usual Uncle Tone! LOL. Hey wasn't there a cartoon dog named Belvedere? Not sure I'd want a car named after a dog. ;D. That's what we kids called cars that did not go fast, a dog, back in the day, remember? Just don't paint it yellow, or worse, satin black!! LOL.
Also, when it comes to these old cars, we also had a saying long ago when they were fresh from the factory, "if it has tits or wheels, it's going to be trouble". Of course, all "car guys" know that that, and I mean the "real guys" who are the ones mostly watching shows like yours!! LOL ;D
> still not a great idea. Yes, some PVC is sold as fuel line. It is marginally OK for a weed Wacker or a go cart. It is in plain sight, and if it cracks, you turn it off and fix it.
PVC is hard like a record, or water pipe. It only becomes flexible when it is plasticized.
There are three pretty common plasticizers for PVC…DINP, DIDP, and DEHP. Maybe more. Those are all soluble in organic solvents. >Like gasoline!!< The gas starts leeching out the plasticizer as soon as you start using it…the PVC becomes unplasticized, and will break like the hard plastic that it is. Unstable plasticizers are why '70s vinyl dashboards cracked and shrank.
You won't see this happening-it's hidden inside the braid- because of a desire to have shiny braided stuff on your car.
I would feel safer with fabric reinforced neoprene for a low pressure fuel line. It is cheap, too. You can see it and touch it to inspect it.
"Chrome don't get you home" applies here. Use real AN or Earl's hose, or just Black FUEL hose if appropriate.
Not understanding or not being aware of the wide variety of polymers things are made of and recommending something because "it seems the same" is like sending someone to Tractor Supply to buy rod cap bolts….they sell'em by the pound! They don't seem much different than those overpriced OEM or ARP bolts, do they? And coat hangars are great for TIG rod, too. Er70s-6 is a scam!
Metallurgy and polymer chemistry are both sort of mysterious, but hot rodders seem more ignorant of the latter, calling it just "plastic" or "rubber".
I generally like improvising, and am pretty cheap, but good to know where it's OK to do that.
I have to add…love your entertaining and informative videos, thanks!
318 with a 360 stroke (they make 360 cranks with 318 journals) 30 or 40 over is 350ci.
Excellent!
Please try some 318 tricks
How about some advice to improve your videos? STOP RECORDING NEXT TO THAT ROAD as far away as possible. The noise is TERRIBLE and makes the videos out there almost unwatchable.
318 poly? as an idea
Tony, you're a great project STARTER!!!!!!!
How about a 340 build for it.
You can't even make a simple video these days without people jumping in with negativity… everybody makes mistakes. Great video as always!
You had so many things wrong I kept quiet on this one but there is one thing you can save money on, with a condition. 100% silicone. Permatex blue is $20 or more at the parts store, window silicone from the hardware store is less then $10 but here is the condition, you must get 100%. Silicone, at the hardware stóre there are lots of silicone/latex blends that are cheaper but won't work, also a bead of silicone the size of a straw once it's dried will swell up the size of your thumb when imursed in gasoline. I would also like to tell you about a great product, 3 M weatherstrip adhesive, works great for sticking two items together FOREVER. But that is the bad thing, you will bend screwdrivers trying to get that oil pan off the pinto.. but for all kinds of things it's perfect, paint/auto body stores have big $8 tubes of yellow, Wal-Mart has smaller $3 tubes of black. Happy wrenching'!
Generations: 318 Poly, 318 LA, 318 Magnum budget build comparo
Actually my bro verified the Marty Robins Daytona wing chassis that was a Nickels engineering built but he passed away he actually had a 69 roadrunner wagon prototype mule from Chrysler built to attract the family Dad ,
Looks like my grandpa's 1967 Slant 6 Belvedere.
Hope it sounds better – he had a crack in the exhaust manifold and never adjusted the solid lifter clearances. You never had to turn the radio down to hear whether it stalled or was still running…
Is Plan Z already gone? Since when?
T use the mule to swap in a modern Hemi V8. Use maybe, the engine and trans from a 2013+ pickup or Charger. Make a move to modernize what you are doing and bring in more views. We don't need to see another 440, 383, 340, 318. Why not use the mule to see what an old school guy can do with modern power.
440
I thought about it some more and I really agree with myself.
400 with a 440 crank
I love how your willing to devote time to admitting mistakes why you made them and the effect the mistake has.
