It’s Episode 3 of Llandow Laps, and Chris Harris is braving some typically Welsh weather to see what the world of hot hatches has to offer. First, we have the widely praised Toyota GR Yaris, which has charmed the press and enthusiasts alike with its potent 261PS turbocharged inline-three and surefooted four-wheel drive system.
Due to a manufacturer no-show, the initial stand-in entry is something that features lightweight polymer construction, a two-wheel layout and, you might say, ‘ample storage space’.
Fortunately, thanks to a last-minute substitution courtesy of a certain Mr. Cooper, we got to pitch the GR Yaris against something small and high-revving after all. Given the conditions, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Toyota was a clear favourite – but it might just have its work cut out against the unexpected contender.
So, get out your best sweeties and settle in for another exciting episode of Llandow Laps; complete with added detailing tips, strong opinions on bell peppers, and the automotive equivalent of saddling up a Labrador.

Llandow Laps is our exciting new series, hosted by Chris Harris at the ‘legendary’ Llandow Circuit in South Wales.
The concept behind Llandow Laps is to pitch two vehicles from the same genre against one another to see which is faster; and the first series will feature grand tourers (with a twist), hot hatches, supercars, roadsters, and restomods.
As well as showcasing the cars’ performance on track, the films will also reveal the behind-the-scenes work required to produce the end result, introducing some of the personalities from the Llandow Circuit and the Collecting Cars team.
The science bit: All cars featured in Llandow Laps will be unmodified from the specification seen on screen, they’ll be running with a full tank of fuel, and they’ll be fitted with sensible tyres available on the road cars from the factory.
Lap times will be recorded, and a winner of each head-to-head will be revealed – although there’ll be more focus on the driving experience and character of the cars than on the numbers alone.

That mini looked magic
Please can we repeat this in the dry? I want to see what that mini can do at Llandow.
After watching that vid and Chris's reactions i think you could almost say the GR Yaris in the modern incarnation of a hot original Mini! And fair does to Toyota still for building a proper homolgation special when everyone else just bases their WRC cars on fwd hot hatches…
Amazing being involved in this with you guys! Thanks for having me, looking forward to the next episodes in this great series.
My god I am falling in love with this channel every week. I hope you're able to continue this forever!
I love a red bell.
I'M ON TEAM BIN!!!!
On the next podcast you should do the best induction sound. The mini is up there and I loved my old 306gti6
I’ve had quite a few hot hatches and the whole ethos is they’re still practical cars but quick. The Yaris looks almost too small to fully tick the box of an everyday car.
Neil Carey, save this!
This editing style is just weird…and not in a good way 🙁
What a legend , bringing that mini and didn’t Chris look like he was having a ball eh
Chris Cooper is the Man!!! I love a mini, my favourite car of all time but never been able to afford to buy that runs and drives or a project to then put the money into. I have a 1:43 scale Vitesse Monte Carlo Mini next too my bed, various original coopers as screen savers on every device and yet I think Mr Coopers may be my favourite yet ❤
Brilliant. We needed an outtake at the end where Chris Cooper goes off on a fascinating tangent.
When you are given lemons you get this……..Especially like the intro rant on peppers capture of an otherwise flavorful sub.
The mini was clearly faster. I think you must be using some sort of obsolete, non-relativistic conception of speed.
That mini is just stunning
8:08 That shot with the Cooper and the GTA-R ❤ boner police
