Too Soon to Cruise the Highway? Learning Manual on GAIL the SNAIL Jennifer Sugint NNKH

In this video, I really put myself to the test, pushing my limits and comfort zone. Can I, a novice at manual transmission, drive the 1962 Econoline, “GAIL the SNAIL” with manual steering and a sloppy shifter to the Duct Tape Drags in Tuscon, Arizona?

Chris’s Video on this trip:

Special thanks to owner Jim and his staff at the Tuscon Dragway for inviting us back to race on Sunday. Every single one of them really made our experience so memorable and we couldn’t be more grateful!
Check them out at:

Check out these cool channels that were also at the Duct Tape Drags. I know some of them are doing videos of their own on the event, so be on the lookout. Thanks @IrishOutlawGarage for the footage of the Econoline!! So great seeing old friends and meeting new ones along the way. We will for sure be back next year!

  1. my father had a brand new 1967 with a 240 in line 6, family took many vacations in it all windows three bench seats step that came out when you opened the side door ,great memeriors

  2. Got a laugh a couple times with you learning 3 on the tree, I learned how to drive on my dad's old 64 Ford with 3 on the tree and I think that's how everyone should learn for the 1st time, cuz after that driving anything is a breeze, don't worry jen the more you drive it the easier it'll get

  3. I learned stick the same way, sorta – I was 16 or 17 and lied and told my employer I could drive manual and had to drive an old Chevy van with 3 on the tree and bluetooth bushings, with my boss in the passenger seat the first day.

  4. Jen I noticed you're shifting way better by grabbing the shifter by the ball. Better leverage. Last video you were grabbing it by the rod near the column. That's too difficult. Big improvement.

  5. If there is ANY sugar in that poweraide you will shut down Gus's kidneys ,which will kill him Guys. My Mom accidently killed Scamp her beloved Laso apso with a choc chip cookie..Just want you to take care. i Love all animals and wish him a long happy life with you Guys. jim

  6. Jen I loved this video! Your emotions coming through. the Final Destination movie in the middle, the dumb and dumber cuts… and @51:14 your voice over is a joy to listen to! I could listen to you narrate a book or something! I'm in awe at the quality of this video!

  7. I am not even sure how I found this channel. Glad I did. I enjoy both the Jen crazy house adventures and the road trips to who knows where. Keep the videos rolling and I'll watch them. Manual can be a pain in the arse when you don't have experience, increasingly so when it's column shift. I'm not surprised you all choked up with seeing a tire go flying, Chris chasing after it and seeing an axle and driving an automobile You're just becoming comfortable with. It was alot for pretty much anybody.

  8. Hey jen just remember without fear there can't be any COURAGE!!! We're only human, nothing's wrong with showing our emotions. I think you did really great driving stick shift on your own. Just a little tip for when driving a hard steering vehicle (no power steering) you have to keep the vehicle rolling when turning the steering for it too turn EASY!!! Take care & see you on the next video….

  9. Ask Chris to get a T5 transmission (like is in the Mustang) so he can work on building a remote shifter, so Gail can get more mph. Mount the new shifter handle where it is easy to reach while driving. Either that or install a modern more powerful drivetrain.

  10. The manual steering is combined with the small, aftermarket steering wheel which reduces leverage, making low speed turns even harder. If not strong, you might want to return to a full size steering wheel and put that mini wheel on something with power steering, or something very light in front like a Beatle or Metro.

  11. I Just love yours & chris' vlogs Jenn, and that beautiful voice, out of this world. I know what you went through with the accident but, you did good and the right thing by carrying on. Well done Jenn.
