Atkin wrecked Swanstrom AFTER the 300 foot roman candle. If Atkins had been paying attention to his own lane, he would have hit the chutes and stopped versus rubber necking and nailing Swanstrom. It wasn't an oildown either. The fuel line on the left side had a blow out so all the fuel was on the left (or burning) so it was all Atkins.
Lastly, the fire truck didn't show up for like 2 minutes. If Swanstrom is knocked out, he doesn't walk away from that fire.
