Every time I see a race car with the tranny exposed I think about what happens if it comes apart. I know why they have it exposed but man it seems sketchy with the power those cars make.

Transmissions of all types belong under the floor. About time Drag authorities jumped on this. 16g alloy floor and proper tailshaft loops. Plastic tailshafts just let all the mechanical items loose. Did the gearbox explode or the tailshaft?
The alloy would probably have kept the shrapnel under the car instead of exiting through the roof.
Sooner than later someone will be BBQd when a trans catches fire and ATF is very volatile. And also holds heat so burns are worse even if not burning.
