An observation on the blown up GS……..the motor might have a fresh rebuild but the cases and crankshaft are 40 years old
On the crank. Hard to say. Unless the crank was total disassemble and rebuild from builder like Pearson FBG or GRC you can't tell how well the rod and bearing are. If it's a big big motor and spray they need to be pinned to prevent twist even after weld. Only crank I ever broke was wrist pin failure after 3 years
Non structural areas of engine cases are quite easy to repair. Pre-heat and post-heat are a must. I do this all the time.
