It is no secret that one of the most popular combinations in the upper echelons of outlaw racing is a ProCharger setup. A good running HEMI engine will produce in excess of 3,000 WHP on the FuelTech hub dyno with that blower package and that is exactly what Mike Chandler’s Camaro cranked out. He is latest racer to take aim at Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings series and is determined to push his 4th Gen Camaro past the competition, including his father who has been running the series for several years.
Chandler knew the first step for his brand-new No Prep Kings combination was to bring it down to FuelTech and take advantage of their Advanced Dyno Training Session package. The service is designed to give FuelTech customers a day at the Georgia headquarters to learn about their PowerFT engine management system and test their vehicle on the Mainline hub dyno.
The FuelTech customer service staff, led by Cameron Lohrmann, help identify any problems and a professional driver slips behind the wheel for the full power testing. For Chandler, a few teething problems were resolved, and the Camaro was belting out the prescribed amount of horsepower. It is said a single day on the hub dyno with a new car is equivalent to a week on the drag strip.
Everyone is familiar with the PowerFT engine management standard features—sequential injection and ignition, O2 Closed Loop, data logger, delay box, Boost Controller, Nitrous Controller, and so much more. The FT600 and the other PowerFT ECUs—FT550, FT550LITE, and FT450—offer a significant amount of power management control, those options are critical in the No Prep Kings series. The lure of the show is to race on unprepared drag strip surfaces to emulate the show’s street racing roots. It provides fast-paced action and a popular live event for spectators. The FuelTech staff worked with Chandler on setting up the right power management settings and he learned how to maintain it on the tricky unprepared surfaces.
Data is important and Chandler’s Camaro is equipped with a pair of WB-O2 Nanos, complete with digital readout and mounted in front of the driver’s seat. A Switchpanel-8 is user friendly with CAN bus connections that offer up to eight input channels, which can be connected to the PowerFT engine management system. The buttons can be customized, are IP67 protection certified, utilize LED lighting, and can be labeled, making the panel easy to use. Finally, the entire ignition system is sourced from FuelTech including the powerful FTSPARK-8 Gen II and CDI Racing Ignition Coils.
From powering champions in the professional ranks of the NHRA to helping manage the power for racers on the popular No Prep Kings television show, there is a reason you’re seeing #FuelTechEverywhere

It’s crazy how all these racers are jumping in the NPK game now. But if you got the money, I’d race for $40,000 a weekend too. It’s going to be crazy come this season when all these new challengers show up.
