Just rolled over 10,000kms in the LDV T60 MAX Ute last week so thought I’d do a car owner’s review of what I personally like, dislike and have experienced with the T60.
It’s known internationally from Saic Motor Corp Ltd. as a Maxus T90 and and goes hard in places like Malaysia as an MG Extender but here in Western Australia I bought it as an LDV T60Max Luxe in late 2022. On Road and Off Road, it’s been 4wding on various 4×4 tracks and ODA, towing and used as a daily all the way up to 10,000 kilometres or 6,200 miles if you’re watching from the US.
When buying the T60 I looked at the other Utes in this segment and found them to be all fairly competitive but the T60 was the Ute of choice for me, only pipping the Mahindra 4X4 PIKUP because of a few creature comforts and with the power it looked like I could have some fun. I also considered the GWM Ute Cannon and the Ssangyong Musso.
Naturally I also looked at the Toyota Hilux, The New Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton and the Isuzu DMAX but couldn’t personally justify the spend on these vehicles. Not when there’s so much on offer at the lower end of the dual cab price range from China and India in the Australian marketplace right now.
Super keen to see what the Hyundai Santa Cruz does to the Aussie Ute Market soon too!
If you’ve got any questions for my first 2023 review for You Tube, ask away in the comments and I’ll get back to you. And sorry no BTS on this video although there were plenty of mess ups.
Either way and as always, Thanks for Watching!

Where do you get your recovery points and bash plates from
I should have but didn’t realise how many commies we have living in Australia.
I noticed that you're close to the ocean, so I'd be interested to know if you've had any rust issues, i.e. if you've noticed any traces of rust in the more concealed parts of the ute's bodywork, especially where panels or body parts are bolted together. There was a recent story doing the rounds in the media where a GWM ute owner living close to the ocean, with all the salt in the air and whatnot having brought to the surface the substandard undercoating and rust prevention manufacturing treatment on his vehicle. Chinese car brands, by virtue of their short history in the Australian car market, play the underdog card, so I'm curious to find out if their recent popularity is proof of their true value for money, or an act of rebellion from the Australian consumers tired of all the crap more established badges have been able to dish out because of lack of decent competition. On the face value of it, your positive review should make the rest of us think twice about still doubting the Chinese brands, but is your experience the norm or the exception? Have these new brands, like LDV and GWM, gotten their basics right yet, or is their aggressive pricing still masking basic problems? In the case of the dissatisfied GWM ute owner, his dealer's dishonest attempt to deny him his consumer rights is what had brought the story to the public's attention in the first place, whereas you dealer seemed to have been ready to remedy your ute's issues without any fuss, so this naturally raises the question of how good and willing are the Chinese brand's dealers, in general, at resolving any after-sale quality control issues. Your review is welcomed, but single-handedly having taken on the responsibility of becoming an unofficial brand ambassador is not without risks, especially if owning an LDV turns out to be a very different experience for others who then may turn around and not only unfairly dispute the validity of your review, but also question your integrity, and that's a very big burden to take on your own.
I am sorry don't mean to offend just being honest. I would rather walk than to be seen getting around this piece of rubbish
Hi Dicey, one question and I think its important, has the body as a hole been hot dipped Galv treated to stop rust?
Great review, enjoyed it, good to hear from a happy owner
sorry if I missed it, you mentioned an actuator flap. I know what an actuator is and i know what a flap is ? but what flap are you talking about? 🙂 cheers
37k drive away it’s real value 37k will get you 2019 triton real boring with same engine
I like the grill on the LDV it reminds me of the face of Cylon from 1978 Battlestar Galactica all it needs is a red light moving from left to right in the headlights
Tanks for good information. Thinking Chinese or Korean ute. Korea owns kia and Hyundai, and China doesn't have good brands. After service will be better on korea brand. Musso costs a little more but not much different.
The lag you speak of, is the exact same for the 2.2 litre Hyundai Santa Fe Highlander and thats a $70 grand SUV.
The interior is very well thought out, touch pad is musch smarter for offroad vehicles, no switches or dials to fix in the future
Naaaaa, I'll Stick with the new gen wildtrak
The biggest thing I am worried about the LDV is rust.
