I Raced a Manual Car for the FIRST Time (AND Did Big Wheelies!) 😬 Hot Rod Garage BTS – RKN Video 5

The time has finally come!! The Savoy made it to Detroit, MI and still needed some work – in typical Savoy fashion. While we waited on a windshield to be made and installed, we took the 55 to cruise to Tom Bailey’s Sick Pizza Party and then got up to test the Savoy the next day. It through us for a loop (and did some killer wheelies!) but by the time it was all said and done – we had a pretty good race car 👊🏼 It was my first time racing a combination like this – and the pressure was on!

Hot Rod Garage Season 10 is NOW streaming on MotorTrend Plus – click the link below to watch:

Don’t forget to check out the Savoy in Episodes 10.5, 10.6, and 10.7 which will be coming out in a few weeks!

  1. Your so lit everytime you video. I love it. I'm a old man but your a breath off fresh air to racing. Not street outlaw type your more informative and get your hands dirty. I'm a fan as I was for Shirley Muldowny back in the days when my dad raced his Dart GTS 340 in New Mexico.your going places Alex keep it up.Enjoy your dad's work and family time.

  2. Just curious more than anything else, couldn't you install a 1" Clutch Master with a new throughout bearing, and reduce the clutch pedal travel ( Bring the pedal stop out a bit ? ) to ensure complete and accurate clutch disengagement during shifts ?

  3. You need a less than 7" lever and around 5 ounces knob. 3-disc clutch and even bigger master cylinder. When you start to spray it, you need launch control on the clutch. Multi disc setup dissipates heat more efficiently.

  4. Hi,
    Good one!
    Busy, busy, busy!
    Thank you.
I am currently working on an intermediate vx ss with a large rear for hook up, and need to keep it legal, lol, for the Australian road laws bla bla bla with a medium range horse powered ls1 to assist with the big horse powered vz ute.
Bit like the savoy and stepping into 100% proof. Well sort of.
    I'll keep in touch.
    Stay cool.

  5. Every race team needs a girl, preferably a daughter to crawl in the front windshield opening to move their 55 Savoy. Alex best wishes thank you for sharing you and your dads incredible adventures

  6. Manual trans drag racing is an entirely different beast. Blower fans to cool the clutch are a must. Also, a clutch pedal stop can save the over extension of the slave/throw out. That’s a BADASS car. They should give you guys first right of refusal if and when it’s sold.

  7. You mean nobody had a 55 Plymouth windshield in stock? I'm shocked! LMAO! When will you build a 55 Ford? LOL! It's not her, she can drive. Call Leonard Long at G-Force, and get a trans, shifter and clutch. Cool stuff.

  8. It is easy to be fast when Dad owns one of the better small chassis shops in racing, but the more I watch the more I see a young women that has more knowledge, and skills than most men older than her. Seeing her work with Derick from vice grip garage, and rebuilding their tranny on the street car challenge, Drive a 211mph 1/8th mile, she does great at any drag and drive event, keeps her head together, and makes good decisions. I'm 57 and have been drag racing both cars and motorcycles since I was 21 and I haven't done a 1/10 of what Alex has. Kudos to you young lady, and keep up the great work.

  9. Alex, If shifting the Savoy doesn't work out for you, the foundry IS hiring grinders! …Lucky, Unfortunately you might as well get use to very limited talking and camera time now on your show, Hot Rod tv. ☹

  10. Is it just me or,… is it a bit weird for Alex to be in Makeup that's not based on motor oil, grease and grime ? 😉
Especially while everything else going on is so normal, and the TV Makeup for the press event is completely different.

  11. I hate to go there, but she is quite easy on the eye.

Now, let's see the Savoy. My first car was a $25
dollar 56 Plymouth Savoy. 318 Poly, 3 on the
tree, and those weird "universal joints" that
    Plymouth used back then.
    (I'd rather watch Alex.)

  12. The Savoy has decent lines
As an Aussie, I really hate those pressed steel hitches you guys use. (VS the cast hitches used everywhere else)
From never having raced a manual, going straight to that is doing it the hard way.

One of these days you'll get a car built well before you need to have it racing.

  13. I think she’s a cheater she’s from Arkansas cause she has to cheat she just drives daddy‘s cars Westin won that race he had the better car you come in a dragster how far is that you can’t beat Weston and a head to head race in the same kind of car because you can’t drive
