That pointer will work just fine with your balancer. You're just using it as a reference, so the numbers don't mean anything..

Do you have an LS2 style timing chain dampener? It'll help the jumping around. Everyone I know puts LS engines together with slop in the chain, but I can't live with it! The LY6 in my car now, I used a billet single row set with an LS2 dampener & I ordered it for a -.005 line bore. It's nice and snug like my small and big block Chebbies used to be!!
I used to check mine often but not that fancy pointer, just a cloth hanger through my front cover bolt lol
I'm pretty sure there's a timing offset, in the ignition category. You don't need to make a custom table.
