Lando outqualified Daniel by 0.502 seconds in the first half of the season and 0.374 seconds in the second half. He beat him 20 times in quali for Christ sake… They were miles apart. Sorry, Danny. I like him, but that McLaren was nowhere near his driving style, and then it changed dramatically in 2022. He was always behind the 8-ball. They literally had to coach him over the radio on basic things to get him through a practice lap. I agree that he should have stayed with Renault. The biggest "what if" is what would Red Bull have done if he stayed with them and went head to head with Verstappen in a better car? People forget Ricciardo was a problem for the competition from 2014-2020. He was actually better as Verstappen's teammate from 2016-2018 (wins: 3-3, podiums: 18-11, poles: 1-0, points: 457-377, qualifying: 20-21 is the only stat Verstappen edged him out in), but I digress…
Side note: Even with all of those crazy setups for Lewis, he still out qualified George by 0.063 seconds in the first half and 0.0006 seconds in the second half. That's a DEADLY team combination right there for 2023. They extracted every bit of performance out of the W13 on a good or a bad day.
