  1. When other manufacturers offering 200 horsepower plus from the factory, Harley offers crate motors as not California emissions compliant. I almost bought a Fat Bob but purchased a Super Duke 1290r evo instead. Anything over 5oo pounds too much. The SD is 180 horsepower 104 ft pounds. TFT dash with IMU and electronic suspension. No mods or crate motor needed. $20,000 is enough for a depreciating liability. You have to spend thousands modding an engine to really make horsepower. Never get your money back. Harley makes nice bikes. Most people buy used Harley’s as only change paint colors every year. Competition offers new paint, horsepower, and electrics every year. The motor company really only makes money when people buy new Vs used. Pan America, Sportster S, Nightster heading in right direction. Those are the fastest bikes from Harley from the factory power to weight wise. I live in Hawaii. Rust even loves powder coating. Harley needs more carbon fiber and aluminum. Lighter bikes helps handling, braking, and acceleration. Lighter materials takes profit margins, though.

  2. So many nice bikes out at Daytona. Everybody is stepping up their performance bagger game.
Big change up in the touring performance after market parts from what was offered back when it began in 2015-2016. I started mine in summer of 2019 after visiting California’s Born Free Show and talking with Satya Kraus about his displayed 2018 Industrial Grey Denim SGS

  3. IMO, the new HD-SE 135 M8 Crate Engine is a winner. Output at the wheel is 143 ft.lbs. of torque at 3500 rpm and 130hp @ 5500 rpm. That's pretty darn good for a crate engine that is Emissions compliant and a 2-year warranty; when tuned with the SE Pro Street Tuner, catalyst equipped Head Pipe w/SE Street Cannon Mufflers (or the SE High-flow Exhaust System, cats in the mufflers). Factor in labor cost for installation (easier, faster to swap out entire engine versus building up same from a Kit; less than half the labor hours). When considering the limitations that the E.P.A. has, pretty good package w/warranty, etc.
Can more power be extracted with an aftermarket Cam, Exhaust System, Tuner, etc.: absolutely…yes. But then warranty is gone, not to mention emissions compliant [for areas where that is a concern].
My own package: combining the S&S 132 Top End Kit (4.32" bore x 4.500" stroke) with the 4.625" crankshaft/flywheel from the S&S 131 Kit (4.250" bore x 4.625" stroke); requires custom pistons to accommodate the 1/8 inch (0.125") additional stroke. This combo yields 136 cu.in. Add a nice Intake/TB/Injectors, Heads, Cam, Exhaust, etc., and tune it with Dynojet or TTS (or swap in a Thundermax ECM), and this beast should easily yield north of 160+wHP and 160+wTQ. Just saying.
