Today, we continue to tear down the engine to get a game plan together to get it back going. A few things are certain, the Bryant Crankshaft is now JUNK, we are going with a 400 main crankshaft to eliminate the spacer bearings and getting some NEW MGP Connecting Rods. This is gonna give us some additional cubic inches and more compression which should greatly increase spool characteristics. The new crankshaft is 3.75 stroke so with the new 6″ connecting rods and current pistons we will have 409ci. I think we are gonna like it!

John, ksr channel runs a stock 5.3 ls block and I have followed the channel since Kevin started it and I have seen him improve the car in several ways but the car still uses the same block ✌️
Kill dozer deserves some reimbursement from PRC looks like
Aluminum is not steel fo sho
Looks like some garbage china casting.
No way those main saddles won't require welding and a line bore. At least it's aluminum and you can do that.
Watch your rod to cam clearance with the aluminum rods and the 3.750 stroke, it'll be tight. (remember cam timing plays a role here too)
Man, y'all rough on them engines… Just a little! LOL!!
31 HERE N SNOW IN MONTANA BRO!!!!! GOOD LUCK BRO ON THE NEW BUILD!!!!
Block shows a lot of signs of fretting under the caps. I think the main caps are walking around. When you first got that block I was a little skeptical of it working for you. I hoped for the best. But I’m afraid it might not be anything but trouble. That’s a sprint car block that has a lot of lightening options that might not work out for what your trying to do with it. I have a dart iron eagle block that needs a couple sleeves if you’re interested. 350 main 400 bore.
Holy crap!! That head…. I also have some PRC heads. YIKES!! How did Hee Haw put it..?? "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all" ….that pretty much sums it up here. Hang tough man. You will figure it out.
Curious what kind of clearances you run? Thanks
Man I hope the block is good.
at least you have a good machinist that know's he can fix it by line boring it etc.. old man's garage there not too bright they have a 400sbc that needs to be sleeved and thats it and they basically think it's a junk engine
Wow who manufactured those cylinder heads. That’s incredible to knock a hunk of the head out while still bolted to the block.
Cut the caps, line bore, line hone. I'd check everything on that block, I mean everything. SBC don't just spin main bearings even with spacers unless something is effy.
Did the restrictior get plugged on the side not oiling?
Brian's issues was easy to find
Will you be able to use the new billet mgp rods that Kelly got you with the new 400 main crank? Or will they not be able to be used now or maybe swap them out with mgp? Idk curious if you can use the billet ones now that your going to a 400 main
I've been watching for probably a year now, you say you're not an engine builder but an engine assembler, I think engine destroyer might be closer.
START OVER COMPLETELY OR GIVE UP
good luck John!
Ouch, that looks freaky (and expensive). Head stud loose? Smacked a valve or piston smacked the head and lifted it? Wow, sry brothers.
Hurry up
Where you headed next?
Was that hole in the base of that back cylinder just a drain back or does it need a weld repair on your Alum. BRODIX Block TJ? And That bracket hole on Brian's head may have been an issue based on how that head split if the piston clearance was ok and did not smack the deck hard. Wondering if it hydrolocked in that cylinder perchance.
Matt's LS (at DNR), went through a piston and rod delete too, and possible open trailering in rain may have filled the turbos up and possibly done that, but he does not know yet.
Just watching all you heads up guys thrash like you do to make this stuff go faster and faster each week and go through all the carnage to keep up with a class of racing that is out of control does make me wonder when there are really big money bracket series going on where people are racing on super prepped tracks for regular travelling big money pots, with buy backs, double entries and multi-days in a row everywhere.
But, each man (and woman), has their likes and dislikes and preferences, and I know you love no prep front or back of the track, and it is really big in your area right now. And you need to do you, and what makes you happy…racing is just a real struggle sometimes, the nature of the beast.
Am glad the block looks good enough to repair, and parts are avail. So far. Wishing some good luck starts to shine down on TJ Racing, Brian, Randy, Matt, Billy, and the rest of the SRC Gang, C.J., and a few others lately too many to list in the Small Tire World. All my faves minus Tommy are blowin' stuff up.
Chasing the racing dream is never easy, or everyone would be doing it!
John, check and ensure theres enough oil drain back in the valley mate
Them rods are sick looking beautiful
I really hope you just take the winter off and concentrate on buying new quality parts and build a completely new engine and have it professionally built. I would love to see you race a season trouble free with a reliable combo. I wish you the best
Prc are known for that. Unfortunately
It's hard to race competitively when all you have is junk and miss match parts. I get racing on a budget but at some point you just have to put money into the build with correct parts correct machine work and correct assembly. He spends good money after bad with all the junk he buys to try to put a engine together. Build 1 good engine and you will be much better off.
That crank is spinning it's way to the light , let it go to the light John !
