These are not average street bikes. These machines are purpose-built for the drag strip with modified engines, extended swingarms, turbo kits, nitrous systems, and sticky drag slicks designed to put massive horsepower to the ground. From turbocharged Hayabusas and nitrous-fed ZX-14s to built GSX-Rs and full-chassis drag bike builds, the Canada Heads Up bike classes showcase the best two-wheel performance in Canadian drag racing.
Heads up motorcycle drag racing is one of the most intense forms of two-wheel competition. Unlike bracket racing where riders dial in a predicted time, heads up racing pits two bikes against each other with no handicap. When the Christmas tree drops, both bikes launch at the same time and the first one to cross the finish line wins. It demands perfect reaction time, precise clutch and throttle control, and raw horsepower to compete at the top of the Canada Heads Up bike classes.
The Canada Heads Up Shootout Series is Ontario’s premier heads up class racing association, presented by Ian Hill Racing Promotions and hosted exclusively at Toronto Motorsports Park. CHU features 17 different classes of cars and bikes, with the motorcycle side headlined by the Outlaw Bike, Stock Wheelbase Bike, and KOTS (King of the Street) classes. Additional bike index classes include 7.90 and 9.30, giving riders at every level a competitive class to race in. Points are awarded throughout the full race season with champions crowned at the annual year-end banquet.
The series has been growing every year since its founding by promoter and driver Ian Hill. What started as a small group of racers has evolved into one of the most competitive heads up racing series in Canada. CHU attracts competitors from across Southern Ontario, Hamilton, Brantford, the Windsor region, and even racers crossing the border from New York and Michigan. The series runs a full schedule of race weekends at Toronto Motorsports Park with Friday testing, Saturday qualifying, and Sunday eliminations.
Toronto Motorsports Park provides the perfect venue for motorcycle drag racing. The quarter mile drag strip at TMP features professional track prep, a Portatree timing system, and grandstand seating for fans to watch every heads up launch and pass. The track has been in operation for over 65 years and continues to host some of the best drag racing events in Canada.
