Use the Copper, Not the Cardboard header gaskets.
Spend some of those Youtoob bucks for some ceramic coating for the hot side and ditch the furry wrap.
Can you get those in a spread port man those are nice
Love low buck builds, not everyone can throw a SMX in their race car. Keep up the good work.
John if you want to use a gasket the best ones out there for a good seal and will last on a turbo car are Remflex gaskets
Can’t wait to get my car together i was in a bad accident and my wife and son are Paralyzed so the race car got put on the back burner at least until I can walk again I got broke up bad but I got a Trans Am with a 6.0 LS stage two turbo cam and 94 mm turbo turbo 350 with a break and a 9 inch I would love to hang out and learn some from you and work on the hot rods
Sugaring – Shorthand for carbide precipitation. The price is crazy for a stainless header.
They make a great ls turbo manifold but the sbc ones are pristine
Summit tacoed a set of ls9 gaskets I ordered by putting them in a too short box and placing an alternator on top of em…packing is not their strong suit.
I think monkey fab has some v-band flanges that take a copper o-ring you could use on the hot side, that way you wouldn’t have to mess with the headers.
DO NOT USE THOSE STOCK GASKETS. THEY BLOW OUT WITH IN A DAY OR THEY DID ON MINE
I got the shiny version of those for my SBC due to availability reasons, but yeah they work.
Please buy some new exhaust tubing. eBay has cheap stainless. Less than $200.
why wouldnt you want to run those headers down and forward instead of up? seems like it would solve alot of your cramped space problems, and make plug and valve train service a breeze.
mounting the heafers low would also mean less tubing on both the hot and cold sides
You didn't have a Aluminum Block before maybe that's why you got away with not re-torquing the heads.
Racing cat¡!!!!!!¡!
run the flanges on a 36 in belt sander. i only run some red rtv. no gaskets
please make sure the block decks are level.
Look at educated John with glasses lol I think your net worth just went up
Those headers match up to your D port design heads???
LET ME GET THE OLD HEADERS!!! New ones look nice for sure!
Good to see John, finally my forged (nearly unobtainium), pistons arrived at the machine shop…of course now they are totally swamped with work though. At least you will be back up running before I am…month 9 on the project is almost gone on the 10th of October. Car is flat ready, just need the machined, blueprinted, balanced & assembled short block, and a trip to Vegas to pick up a couple of 5 gal pails of race gas now!
Just keep "Beating and Banging" Buddy ….
We are behind you!
Break out the die grinder and clean up the slag around the pipes in the collectors.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Love the videos
Back in the day that was a 1200 dollar set of headers. Fast paced production
Move the tranny cooler while moving weight
For the price and you say it’s stainless that’s a good looking header you can’t even buy that much tubing for that price. And just because it’s made in China shouldn’t mean a thing.
If your decking the surface of the head and going for a thinner gasket arnt you raising the cr ratio? Or are you no concerned with that? Just curious John
Someone in the comments on an old video actually told you about those 1206s gaskets.
Bought a set of the flowtech 1-7/8 stainless up and forward turbo headers this spring off eBay for $250.00 decent headers for the money
They sent metric bolts with my flowtechs, but for $250 I'm not complaining. They are a good set of headers. The merge spike is nice. I'm sending mine off to have them ceramic coated inside and out. Should help spool up
You can get a copper gasket that is reusable for that style vband, just heat, anneal and use indefinitely
John I was just wondering if you are going to clean up the header flange?
