Never seen this sort of thing happen before. Small $5 part ends my 1000 HP Stroker motor season early.

Great investigative work Bro! Valuable tips too! Crazy how something so small as a dowel pin can stop an engine from running and cause considerable damage! Enjoyed the video!
Awesome setup l love the 351 Windsor hard to beat hoping I can get my little 384 wins back together have to buy top end and then it can start pulling the knot out of them boties again l love it Ford powered forever baby
That engine looked extremely clean on the inside! Kudos on the maintenance!
Thanks
Great video I wonder how much that is. Cost when it's done
they make three bolt cams for ford and timming chain to match
Hey Dan! Good trouble shooting. I had figured timing chain issue but the cam dowel pin? Glad she was not hurt too bad. Any reason on Nixing the Morrel lifters? Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Motown!
Great investigative work Dan, yeah loose timing chain would be my thought to why the cam dowel pin broke. It's a good/ bad thing that it broke, just image how much damage
to the drive train if had no cam dowel or crank key, but glad there was no major bottom end damage.
I had a 410W for last few years in my 4wd conversion econoline. It was my everything van and that engine made 500hp and 580 torque. Miss that thing. Sold it in 2019.
I had that happen on a 460 Engine, put 2 Dowel pins in the timing gear to cam ,put gear on cam with bolt and drill and ream new dowel pin hole stronger too. Good luck
Damn! I guessed it correctly on the post! I've had to fix several fox boddies with the same failure!
There’s where all your hp went to. I’d say two step is hard on those dowels and the chains. You’ve been fighting that broken dowel for awhile I bet, s beat up as it is. Nice find. Guess it couldn’t hide from you anymore. Heck couple valves she’s ready to rip again I bet. Those cylinders looked awesome still. I mean that’s what my broke butt would do, lol.
That sucks man but at least the carnage ain’t so bad. I’m sure you already know but there are different length dowels out there all around an inch long +/- so some don’t penetrate the cam gear as much as others. Seems like your gear was moving around a lot to deform the end of the pin like that.
Oh I guessed wrong. Thank God LS' run 3 bolt cam drives. Is that an option for SBF?
Good video. What happened to the 378 frankenstroker?
Dan the bolt should hold that gear by itself. Make sure it didn't bottom out before tightened up. Had ot happen on a 460 once.
I would think worn valve springs …high rpm valve float …kissed the piston causing cam pin to bend
Dang that sucks!! When I ordered my custom cam for my 427 stoker the guy talked me into double pinning mine. Boy I'm glad I had him do it now!! Wasn't that much more to have done. He drilled the timing chain to match and sent it all together. Might be something to think about on the next one?? Thanks for the videos!!
Cool video, sucks but I definitely learned something, thanks
I allways learn on here.
Common garage gear head not some clown show with big sponsors.
Making me want to go build one of my engines and drop it in something.
What's your fix? Dual pins? Belt drive? Was that setup even adjustable and degreed?
Time for timing gears or a double cam pin
Was thinking it was the Key. All in all, you came off well. Is it usual to see that much wear on a dowel pin? In process of cam change. Curious to compare it to mine.
I love how you add the A Team song into the videos, still one of my favorite shows.
real good video today
Very happy for you that it wan’t terrible Dan. I am looking forward to the reassembly and start up. Take care, Brent
Sorry for your problems man
how well does that intake work i ask only because i was thinking about buying one ,what are thought on it
Dang! Man! I didn't know that the Ford vans had a 351W Roller? I thought it was mostly F trucks.
That motor looks very clean for beating on it for 3 years you don't even have head studs
Neo I knew that was the problem that’s why I said it was the pin I had the same problem at braidington at spring break shootout. Ob never heard of a chain breaking.
Your timing has been all over the place I'm surprised you didn't catch that with a timing light side note how much power did your stock 351 make on boost?
I never knew
