Can you really Drag Race the new Mustang Mach E? | Chasing Dust

Move over, V8’s. There’s a new sheriff in town. It’s no secret that electric cars can put down some serious power. The advantage of instant torque and single speed transmissions that come with EV’s combined with the grip of an all-wheel drive setup make them serious contenders for performance driving machines. But how well can they fare against their gas-powered counterparts on the drag strip?

On this episode of Chasing Dust, our host Matt Moghaddam takes his all-electric 2022 Ford Mustang Mach E GT to the 1/8th mile drag strip Irwindale Speedway just to see what kind of passes you might expect from this battery-powered pony car. And although Matt’s never drag raced himself, it couldn’t be easier in an AWD car with one gear.

This isn’t the stock Mach E you’ve seen on this channel before. Since introducing us to his new daily driver, Matt has swapped out the stock shoes for a set of Nitto NT555 G2 performance tires in a 275/40ZR20 size, wrapped around a new set of Curva Concepts C300 wheels. In addition to really giving the Mach E an aggressive, muscle car look, these new Nittos can provide all the traction needed at the drag strip to make some blistering passes in this EV.

Watch and see just how consistent Matt can be with the Mach E and see how electric cars might be the way to go for the next generation of drag racing enthusiast. And find out how the Mach E GT compares to the Coyote-powered Mustang GT towards the end of this episode.

  1. Reaction time and ET are 2 different times. Regardless of your reaction time your ET should be the same. That's how a "slower" car can beat a faster car, it's called a "hole-shot"

  2. Electric garbage!!! Dude you dipped your balls in the green sauce. Fuck that! I’ll never own one! Only reason these rolling dumpsters exist is because some idiots think we are all gonna die from cow farts and diesel smoke. Welcome to 2022, the age of gullible morons

  3. I have been a Mustang man since I was a teenager and had a 1968 Mustang with a 289 high performance motor from a boat! But the mustang Mach E doesn't look like a mustang it might be fast but it is ugly ( compared to a any other mustang)( my favorite is a 71 mach 1) I feel like Ford sold out all the mustang fans out there. They have let us down. They don't look like mustangs!! They look like an Asian SUV – not so bad except they are not in mustangs. — at least the new Corvettes look good, even though they are not a 63 Split window. So thumbs down to mustang designers . Maybe they will grow on me but I am not holding my breath. I would expect a mustang to look like a mustang! Just like I am disappointed with the design of the Corvette — both are new cars and should have a new name. Come on Detroit!!

  4. 2018-2020 have 460HP, either 2021 or 2022 HP was lowered to 450 for emissions. I have a 2019 GT and a 2022 Mach-E premium eAWD ER. I don’t care what both are called they are both nice to drive and own. Love charging my MME at home and costing me very little per mile to operate.
