Built Motors Are a Waste Of Money (Change My Mind)

A little over a year ago I pulled my built LS VTEC engine out of my Honda Civic EG Hatchback and swapped in a stock internal B18C1 GSR engine. The health of the GSR was unknown as I had just purchased the full swap from a subscriber/friend for only $1,200. With needing to make a car show deadline and not feeling confident in the health of my LS VTEC, it was worth the risk. That little stock GSR went on to provide me with the most fun I’ve ever had in any car ever. Today’s video tells the full story of the stock internal GSR. What an absolute soldier.

  1. So, I can only imagine your inbox, right about now. Been here for about 2 years now, I remember seeing the H2B days before the hit and run. Still, I have no idea how, but you’re one of the most humble people on the platform, saying hi from Cali.

  2. Boosted John!!! I haven’t been on YouTube for a while since you haven’t uploaded as much but I’m glad to watch!
What’s your opinion of super tech springs on gsr for a daily? I’m going to replace the valve seals, should I just send it with some springs too or just seals only ? It’s my daily

  3. I disagree. You need to build the block correctly with the right clearances and it will last for a very long time. My D16 vitara build has been rippin for 7 years now. If your ring gaps, ptw clearances, bearing gaps are wrong it wont last 100 miles. A bad oil pump will kill it even quicker just like a crappy tune.

  4. Not this again No built motors specifically b series have decades of history of making killer power with amazing reliability and countless records to this day even current AWD/stick shift fastest 1/4 miles speed factory runs a built B-series fastest FWD also built b series the title should be I wasted tons of money because I didn't listen to the OG Honda enthusiasts telling you to get a proper tune and instead blew up motor after motor trying to cheap out on tuning you wanted race car power in a street car but weren't prepared to pay what it truly costs you can only pick 2 fast cheap reliable and all of your videos you're constantly trying to cheap out you needed a proper stand alone and a proper dyno tune with safeties in place has you done that from the beginning instead of hondata and random dude tuning it like generic chipped tunes piggy back ecus are a waste of money is more like it it you want big power and reliability you have to invest in the systems that keep it from going boom you never did that

  5. Built motors aren’t a waste of time depending on what you wanna do with the car. But i like how simplicity is the key to reliability which is where a stock motor comes into play. Stock b18b1 with arps and cometic can net you 350 reliably with a very good tune & last you years. If you blow it slap the same motor in and drive it!

  6. With all due respect. Your tuners are a waste of money. I havent seen so much terribly tuned air fuel ratios in my life before seeing your channel. I can only imagine what the timing maps are like. I feel bad for you every time you blow a motor because it is not your fault other than giving your car to the wrong people to tune. I want to see you win bro.
