  1. A guy got some new feet treads….what brand boots are those?

Edit: looks like I located them via pocket computer Googleizer by looking at the bottoms. Justins. Maybe the Tanker model. I like my Ariat feet treads but it’s time for new pair.

  2. derrick you actually had me going on the rechrome bumper talk, thought you were really going to send it out, but been watching you for many years now i just waited, then you brought out the chrome spray paint. again you just keep topping the previous video.

  3. VGG is my favorite Youtuber. I know he says don't do anything I do unless you are really desperate. This is more for entertainment.
But still. I love the car and that he got it started and driving with the straight eight engine. But, If I bought the car, I'd have to UNDO everything he did in this video.
I wish MY 52 had front coil springs in good condition. Like VGG's were BEFORE. Cutting coils is bad enough. But TORCHING coils is the worst thing you can do to a suspension. Either way makes the camber too far off to correct with an alignment.
But the result of torching coils is coil bind and loss of temper. So you are bouncy.
Next, he put on tires that were too short. That is why the fender and tire gap was what it was.
Next, he got rid of the factory "hub centric" wheels and put cheap aftermarket wheels on that are not "hub centric."
These are the things you would only do for laughs. Not for a car you ever expect to drive again.
The smart thing is to have the wheel centers put on wider rims. Or find hubcentric wheels with about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches more width. You have to buy a wider tire to get the height you need because modern tires are 75 aspect ration but they were about 84 back them. I wonder why he used what looked like 50 or 60 series tires.
They were too narrow for the wheels, which were actually a good width, AND too short. Maybe had just had had some tires from a Chevy Citation lying around.
Now my other remarks or more subjective.
Also, a top of the line car would have full wheel covers. Only , say , a 52 Plymouth had the small hubcaps. Which gets me to the raised white letter tires. This is closest to the absolute worst car to put them on. Even if you want the "hot rod look" on your 50's car, a Packard is an enormous car. It is even bigger than a 52 Chrysler. Derek is a big guy and when he is standing next to the car, you can see it is as tall as a modern van or SUV. But this is a matter of taste, not safety. It would be even worse looking on a 4 door sedan. "In my opinion." In the early 60's , 4 door sedans were almost 90 percent of the cars sold. So any 2 door, whether it is a hardtop or a coupe/sedan/post, is worth treasuring.
I suppose guys got back to him and ragged on him about the linseed oil from other shine ups getting dull and attracting bugs. I'll reserve judgement about how well the new VGG shine juice works since it seems to have some paint rather than a just a solvent and a bug dietary supplement.
I suspect the shine juice will cause fish eyes in the paint when the next owner tries to de-patina it.
I would have used the headliner to give a pattern to a upholstery shop or seamstress to make a new one.
I just wish he said at the end: "Please, this was all for laughs! Don't screw up your suspension. At all. Seriously!"
I liked when he used "lightning scissors" to cut out bad metal and "lightning stitchers" to weld in metal. It's been a couple of years since he brought those out.
Maybe young people can't relate to high quality repairs so he resorted to "grandpa's follies" mods.

  4. Looking up at the picture of my '53 Packard sitting in a field and watching this, I need to get to it and get it running again. I was my late grandfathers that I swore to keep in the family. Even if I don't fully restore it (original plan) it still needs to be rolling down the roads for people to see and my 2 boys (1 and 4 years old) to see and enjoy. My 4 year old is definitely going to be a car boy. He is everything automotive like daddy. Love these videos and it was a great one as always. Put my oldest to bed, fell asleep with him and woke up at midnight to have to toss up a new episode of VGG before going back to bed. No I can sleep peacefully! Love these episodes!

  5. Derek this is Monty Graham (aka) Wingnut I would love to come work with you and you don't need to pay me any thing just want to help. I live in Phoenix AZ. Let me know if and when you get in town. Wingnut

  6. I originally thought this car would be a great burnout car but actually id save that fully if it were me that thing is the coolest car i really love your videos, Watching from new zealand is really nice to see all these cars that arent really even over here in general and i aint kidding ya, But anywho i hope ya have a great day or night where ever it is for you! Personally my favourite series is saving abandoned cars

  7. I love this Packard build don't see a lot of them so it's pretty cool to see one. Every car is unique and has a story it's our job to bring that out, whether we have lots of money to stick into a rig or not a lot either way it's still art.

  8. I’m sure you’ve already thought about it, but a feller needs to go to Kansas to find a 59 something or other to put that license plate on. Great show by the way.

  9. Hey I've been watching your channel for years now and up until this point I've been really pleased with the content . But I've gotta say I'm extremely disappointed you didn't remove that confederate flag license plate and replace it with something else..

  10. Derek and Jessica…what an awesome episode of VGG! That car is super cool and rare and it is a true survivor. I would really like to see you slowly fix the old Packard hotrod up over time…an episode here, an episode there showing you and others restoring some parts that need it, taking care of the mechanicals (maybe some upgrades here and there), doing the interior nice (Dan the man), rebuilding or replacing the guages if they don't work right, maybe a larger exhaust with a Flowmaster or something, and how is the trunk floor…can it be POR-15'd (rust converted), 'plated and given a generic black rubber mat to make it a family three-day-weekend trip or meet–n-greet event rig?

  11. I love watching VGG, the way you interact with the camera is awesome. I would love to see that kind of interaction on roadworthy rescues, you are funny, intelligent and make it feel like we are all your best friends. You seem out of sorts in roadworthy, however I will still watch you.
