Bottle Rocket/Casper Race Is On – Idiot Proofing My Hot Rod And Sucking Filth From Under Our Charger

Lots of activity going on around the shop including a massive Facebook Marketplace score on a lifetime supply of Torqueflite parts, plus a recap and summary of our race between Casper and Bottle Rocket. The odds favor the Hemi Ford, but our little 318 still might pull an upset.

  1. 15:20 dollar for dollar, its still gunna be a better buy to get a 5 gallon bottle of Zep.

Also, if you have the kind of pressure washer like I have, you can run a tube from a feed point on those things and use them like the 'foaming degreaser' stuff at the car wash, only with as hot of water as you can possibly get hold of, so long as you have the right kind of high pressure hose [ABSOLUTELY MUST be either Kevlar or steel because the other ones MELT and rupture] to handle high temperatures.

I used those type hoses with carpet cleaners back when I lived in Chicago and did steam cleaning of carpets for a living.

The wrong hose and you can get scalded out of your skin, but the right kind of hose and you're good to go to 275°F with sodium hydroxide, GUARANTEED to blast THE WORST crud right on the spot! (~_^)-b

Just be sure and rinse out your pressure washer pump afterwards because it will pit the aluminum if its that kind of pump.

  2. I'll have to do it again soon, but when I was working on my truck and trying to buy time before major floor-pan work, I ran two household compressors (nominal 5 hp) on two circuits (to prevent tripped breakers) into a common hose. I used that to feed a needle scaler (IR I think). After the needle scaler, the underside was ready for whatever paint was available (tremclad in my case). More expensive than a screwdriver, but better and faster I think. With regards to the compressors, they were bought at least 15 years apart, so not a credit-card fest.

  3. Oven cleaner (the cheap crud), is a life saver. It will strip lead paint from old tractors. Learned that in the late 80's. Fast forward and it is a wife saver. I clean my shop sink and bathtub/shower with it. Safe on enamel and gel coat. The bonus is I hear less static at the end of the day.

  4. Tony I have something I just don’t understand and I’ve never seen this on a early 318 that i replaced the vacuum advance because the original didn’t do anything at all and the engine had a few missing cylinders so I replaced the vacuum advance and now when I plug in the advance with either manifold vacuum or ported vacuum the 318 just starts missing extremely bad but disconnected it straightened out so what the hell am I missing here?

  5. Tony Ive been watching you since day one. You are great man I'm so happy you are a mopar guy! We are lucky to have you man. Chrysler salute from Ohio

  6. Man a 318 can beat a hemi, clevland rammed 430 Ford, i will send you Money when i can afford it. Offer limited to $100 us, payable by end of finanbcial year. Good luck

  7. I scored two 70s era Bennett gas pumps and a RC cola pop bottle machine on Marketplace. Drove from Ohio down to Tennessee for them. Dressing up my garage as a Sinclair Gas Station.

  8. I have some concerns about your nitrous set-up. I would suggest that you have the switch activate at full throttle, rather than off idle. Years ago I did the same as you have, but if you have to pedal it, the nitrous stays on. I changed it to full throttle activation only. Came on at about 90% throttle. Much safer, and when you pedal it, the nitrous is off.

  9. Nice tranny score UT. Now you can get your Chager trans fixed, no excuse other than the ones you mentioned a day ago. HAHAHA. Cheers from the Great White North.

  10. The fuel injected engine into a classic should be interesting. I put a Holden 304, fuel injected engine and 4L60E from 1994, into a 1954 FJ Holden. I'd advise avoiding the electronic trans, because OEM PCM's can be limited, so leave yourself an option of going carb.
One of my first long distance road trips, in the FJ, was to the Opal mining town of Lightning Ridge, NSW, Australia. It rained overnight, and next day spent some time driving on the dirt roads. It really didn't seem very muddy at all. But wow, when I got home, I had the car on a hoist, chiseling caked on mud from every nook and cranny. Even after multiple cleans, the floor is still stained from the opal dirt. Also, on that rainy night, I forgot to close my cowl vent, and my PCM got wet. so avoid mounting your PCM under your cowl vent.
    keep up the good work

  11. Yeah I quit facebook. Facebook is telling everyone our business, including foreign governments. Facebook is not welcome in my home. That said I did enjoy shopping for cars and parts there. But I not willing to pay the price.

  12. Just watched the mopar connection vid where they came to the shop. I was surprised that they didnt seem to grasp the 4 door to two door swap and the fact that 2 and 4 door share the same length and wheelbase and left there convinced that you altered sledgehammer like an fx

  13. Can we do a 'go fund UTG' to buy you a lift?
I don't know how to set it up, but if uncle Kathy organizes it I'll pitch in.
THAT'S an upgrade that'll help cure some project avoidance, AND get you off the concrete!
Laying on cardboard is what guys like me do!

  14. Would the clay help with anti-tank mines if you left it? You could steer into it and make it more Mad Max. You've already got the paint.
