Blown Head Gasket? Let’s take the motor apart after 5 passes!

This is NOT how we wanted this new motor to start out! We have made, 4 full passes and then a spin attempt. So 5 passes, 5 burnouts and about 10 spool ups and the heads have got to come off. It was pouring water at Galot, we have now coined it the Galot curse. LOL… Lets pull the heads off and get a plan of action, to stop the gaskets from leaking. No Prep Kings (NPK) is coming up in Rockingham in 2 weeks. That is less than 14 days away, let’s hope we can make it!

  1. My father and I have been doing hot re-torques with heaters for years.….obviously need to make sure the fuel lines are capped, and put moving blankets over the engine bay to keep the heat in. Hit it with a temp gun periodically and when it’s hot enough, send it!

  2. Hey John I see that all of the time on the marine motors but they are sealed when they get hot an the cold water hit up against the back of the boat it like a vacuum an it sounds like ice braking the cold get sucked in thur the exhaust valves

  3. One thing I would do is buy some cheap rubber grommets to run your spark plug wires through the firewall. That sharp edge metal on the plug jacket wouldn’t take much to lose a cylinder or two.

  4. Build, race, rebuild, race repeat! The good ole days!! I miss my '71 Chevelle SS!!! She wasn't all turbo or nitrous, just all engine & Holly double pumper & headers cam, shift kit…the typical 80's Street Rod! I thought I was flying 12's-13's 1/4 mile! I did however win a lot of races! Fun times! Lifetime memories!!

  5. Its a Chev,, head bolts are tapped into the water jacket. As are most alloy blocks as well. And need head stud sealer or they will do exactly what happened. Makes it a bit harder to remove the heads but IF you use it you would not be removing them now.
75lb is correct max torque for 7/16 studs

  6. Aluminum block blues.
If the sleeves aren't taller than the deck it will give you hell as well at peak torque.
I've also seen when you butt the o rings near a water port instead of a head stud it will leak water there.

  7. jesus man, you didnt retorque the head bolts? Are you sure that type of racing is for you? I only ask cause you are not big on maintence, at all. Budget racing will only get ya so far my man, ur at that point and starting to see the downfalls and follies of trying to keep up with all that money your racing against 😀
