Why Is the Ford GT40 Named After Its Height?

A race car named after its height. Why?

The Ford GT40 got its name from its height: about 40 inches (roughly
1.02 meters) tall. Three things explain the story:

1. The height: a very low body that helped cut air resistance
2. The grudge: Ford and Ferrari held buyout talks in 1963 that
collapsed (accounts differ on who walked away), so Ford built its
own race car
3. The revenge: after failing to finish Le Mans in 1964 and 1965,
Ford took a 1-2-3 finish in 1966 and won four years in a row,
1966 to 1969

One chassis, number 1075, even won both the 1968 and 1969 races. Only
105 GT40s were built in total.
