I had a similar thing happen with a trailer that a hydraulic awning. A piece of aluminum fell into the battery and arced it out and also melted a hydro line too. I was driving around a fairgrounds at about 10 mph and it was ROLLING smoke. Luckily I saw it.

Reaper maybe add a kill switch system for power in trailer so winch an batteries be disconnected. Just another layer of protection
