Use heat gun, heat it up it’ll crumble off. But if you use a polishing wheel and aggressive compound you can get through it, be careful not to go through the plaiting.
Bondo over trim… if the trim is stainless, maybe a propane torch? I have never tried that, so I would test on something from a junkyard first to see where that goes in terms of getting the shine back. I had never heard of anyone running bondo over trim , much less seen an example. Only reason I can figure someone doing that is attachment points were trash, and bondo was a low tech way of anchoring it on the vehicle. Maybe… they should have used hot glue instead.
Had to chime in on finding a good Auto-Painter…..I'm 60 and I painted for 20 years , worked in Restoration shops , Productions shops , Dealers and my own restoration shop in Los Gatos. I still paint on and off for myself or friends. What is the missing element here???? DECENT PAY.! It took me 20 years to find out that Paying for an "Artist" to do the job right and taking the health risk was never going to pay well. The Automotive Industry was destroyed by Insurance companies and cheap body shops.
