  1. I had a Capri that the hood flew up on at 70mph, made it to NC/SC line from the NC/VA line before it lifted. When it hit the roof it put 2 football size dents and 3-4 baseball size in the roof at the windshield and two big ones above the back glass along with the standard cowl buckle job, i was on my way to MPS salvage in GA so i tossed the hood and bought another one there along with a roof skin that we duct taped onto my roof and came on home lol….good ole days, i wouldnt try that shit now though lol. We pumped a basketball up under my cowl and massaged back with hammers as we went, surprisingly enough mine wasnt as bad as that. Seems lower speed hood lifts do more damage to the cowl and higher speeds destroy the hinges and roof.
That triple wall driver hinge was an update in ‘81 to help prevent driver injury from front impact and the hinge pushing thru causing the driver corner from coming thru the glass and stabbing the driver plus more crumple zones were added to the hood lips.
